  • Gulmohar Park, svrkprabhakar wrote 13 years ago:
Gulmohar Park Residents Welfare Association is a Township (G P R W A) is located in Seri Lingampally Municipality, in Ranga Reddy District. Due to its close proximity to Hitech City, there has been a heavy influx of IT professionals here. The township is close to Hyderabad Central University (HCU); Lingampally Railway Station is just one km connected with MMTS trains to Falaknama and Nampally Station in addition to RTC and other transport services to City. The township has been maintaining the colony independently after taking over from developers. The layout of the colony was done by HMDA in 1994 with 600 plots measuring to 150 to 500 square yards. Developed in a phased manner it is spread over 40 acres which includes parks, community hall, wide roads with paved footpaths. Good drainage, underground sewerage and water pipelines are a feature of the township. The amenities include library, school, shopping area and provision for hospital and a convention centre. It is one of the first gated colonies of Hyderabad. The unique feature of this development is no two houses are similar and all the 600 houses are different from each other designed as per the needs of every purchaser according to Vaastu. There are no apartments and commercial complexes in the colony where more than 1000 families from all walks of life live. The colony is developed as per the GHMC town planning zoning concept. The highlight of the colony is Gulmohar Park spread over 4 acres. It has a yoga centre and a walking track of 500 metres. The park is frequented by the young and old alike. G P R W A was registered in 1996. The present office bearers are Shaik Kasim, President, P Prabhakara Chary, General Secretary, followed by Vice presidents, Organising Secretaries, Treasurer, Joint Treasures, Joint Secretaries, Cultural Secretary and Executive Members consisting of total office bearers to 31 members. Executive Committee meeting is held every month to review the progress of the works undertaken and to deal with the issues for development works and redressing the grievances of the residents. A monthly maintenance Rs 250 collected from residents. Shaik Khasim, Secretary of the association, said, “Credit goes to the past and present office bearers in adhering to strictly to by laws and rules formed by the society which resulted in development of the colony in phased manner from time to time.” The colony got support from GHMC, Urban Forestry, Local MLA, corporator and others connected with government agencies. The initiative of growing plants in kitchen garden, meeting plant needs of nutrients by recycling of plant biomass from vicinity, protecting plants from insect-pests and diseases by using homemade herbal pesticides. Steps to reduce frequency of watering, converting kitchen waste to compost, multiplication of plants, instead of purchasing from nurseries have paid dividends as the colony is clean and green. GHMC horticulture and Urban Forestry departments have adopted the Gulmohar Park, where more than 18 persons are deployed for maintenance for its upkeep. Different varieties of decorative and ornamental plant and trees such as Acoelorrhaphe Wrighti, Bottle Palm Millari, Neeryam, Duramalla, zero pollution, natural oxygen abundant, etc, with excellent landscaping is instrumental for healthy environment. Gulmohar Park is the highlight of the colony, where one can find rabbits and pigeons. Australian pigeon, Khajana ducks, love birds, sparrows and other birds too are found in the park. P Prabhakara Chary, General Secretary said that their vision is to make it a model colony in GHMC limits. GHMC has funded for 10 rainwater harvesting pits at common areas and more than 100 pits were dug individually by the residents in their houses, to conserve enough water for their futures needs. Aleem Basha, Commissioner, GHMC (West Zone) said, “It is a wonderful colony in GHMC limits and we have adopted Gulmohar Park.” Ramulamma, who is the oldest resident in the colony said, “In 1994 it was like a thick forest with wild animals and fear of snakes and scorpions. There were only 10 houses and people were living in fear of snakes. Today it is safe, secure and wonderful to be living here.” Noor Haq, chairman, Sanali Group and architect of the Gulmohar Colony said, to keep the prices very low and affordable, he had to manufacture hollow bricks and a crusher too was kept on site to reduce costs. The money saved was passed on to the buyers.
